Pune-based EKA Mobility closed the first half of FY2026-27 with 1,786 vehicle units sold, up from just 133 units in the same period last year. That works out to a 1,243% year-on-year jump — or, as the company put it, more than 13 times growth — and it came almost entirely from two segments doing the heavy lifting.

EKA Mobility founder and chairman Dr Sudhir Mehta attributed the jump to expansion across manufacturing, engineering and product capacity, rather than any single vehicle launch driving the numbers. The company has said it plans to keep adding production capacity and building out its engineering capabilities as its electric commercial vehicle business scales further.

SCVs Drive The Bulk Of The Growth

Small commercial vehicles accounted for the largest share of the increase, with SCV volumes rising to 1,286 units in H1 FY27 from just 79 units a year earlier — a 1,528% jump that made SCVs the single biggest contributor to the overall growth figure. For a segment built around frequent, high-utilisation last-mile and local delivery use, that kind of scale-up suggests fleet buyers are increasingly comfortable putting electric SCVs into daily rotation rather than treating them as a pilot experiment.

Electric Buses More Than Double

EKA's electric bus business also had a strong half-year, with volumes climbing to 500 units from 54 units in H1 FY26 — an 826% increase. Buyers comparing electric buses across manufacturers before placing a fleet order can use the bus comparison tool to check specs side by side rather than going purely on brand reputation.

Entering The M&HCV Truck Segment

Alongside its existing bus and SCV business, EKA Mobility has now expanded its portfolio to include medium and heavy commercial vehicles — a segment that's generally tougher to crack than SCVs or buses, given the payload, range and duty-cycle demands heavier freight work puts on an electric powertrain. Entering this category alongside two already-scaling segments signals the company is betting on breadth across electric commercial mobility rather than staying concentrated in its original bus-and-SCV base.

Manufacturing Scale And Export Push Behind The Numbers

None of this growth happened without infrastructure behind it. EKA currently runs two manufacturing plants in Pune, with a new hub under development in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, to add further capacity. Its workforce has crossed 3,000 employees, including more than 500 designers and engineers working across vehicle design, powertrain, battery systems, electronics and software — what the company describes as a dedicated electric commercial vehicle R&D setup. EKA is also pushing internationally, with electric buses already deployed in Zanzibar and SCVs running in Nepal, while assembly plants are being set up in Ethiopia and Australia through local partnerships. The company holds Champion OEM status under the Automotive Production Linked Incentive Scheme, with PLI certification across its product platforms. Fleet buyers evaluating an SCV purchase can check financing and comparison options through the SCV comparison tool, and confirm current availability with a dealership before placing an order.
